If something happens where he can come back then we will integrate him in.”While the team can’t count on Washington to play, it does not mean the players would not want him back.Alexander sounded very open to having the beleaguered linebacker coming back to the roster if the NFL allows Washington to play.“As a player, I am always welcoming Washington back,” Alexander said. “From a systematic standpoint they might say it is (tough to rejoin team mid-season).“You have guys like (Greg) Hardy suspended 10 games, he is out all of camp, preseason and all of those 20 games, but when he is ready to play you will say, ‘Come on back,’ right? No one is saying, ’10 games? We don’t want you back.’ It does not really matter length of time, whenever he can come back he’s a Cardinal, he’s our brother. Up top it is something different.” Your browser does not support the audio element. If Washington can play, the question then becomes can he still play? The 6-foot-2, 238 pound linebacker has missed an entire season, and seemingly will be suspended at least a certain amount of games in 2015 if he gets reinstated. That is a lot of time for a player to miss.Prior to the suspension, Washington was a Pro-Bowl player that made the Associated Press 2nd-Team All-NFL in 2012. He recorded a career-high 108 tackles that season, along with nine sacks and an interception.Alexander seems to believe that Washington could return and play football at the high level he was playing before his suspensions.“Some guys have the ability to transcend the situation as far as missing football and Washington was one of those guys that is gifted to play this game at a high level,” he said. “Hardy can do it, Adrian Peterson can do it. There are a lot of guys that have elite talent and could come out and make an impact.“I’m not sure I can do it, but I’m not as gifted as him physically. He can make wrong steps and still make up stuff with his athleticism in football that most guys can’t.”There is still no timetable on when the NFL will announce a decision on Washington.
