FBI identifies `Newlywed Bandits’

first_img AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREStriving toward a more perfect me: Doug McIntyre Rocha is currently enrolled as a student at Rio Hondo Community College in Whittier, Eimiller added, and may have attended the school as recently as the last several weeks. Meyercamp is on parole for burglary and assault and is reportedly a La Puente gang member, Eimiller said. The crimes were reported at banks in El Monte, Duarte, Diamond Bar, Claremont and La Habra, Eimiller said. The couple’s alleged spree began on Oct. 18, when Meyercamp is believed to have robbed an East West Bank in El Monte, FBI officials said. The next crime occurred on Oct.23 at a Bank of America in Duarte, said Eimiller. In this crime, only Rocha was seen inside the bank, she added. The FBI released the names Thursday of two suspected bank robbers known as the “Newlywed Bandits,” wanted in connection with five robberies in the region over the last month, officials said. Rayceana Racheal Rocha, 22, and Paul Harlen Meyercamp Jr., 26, are being sought in connection with the robberies, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said Thursday. Both suspects are former residents of El Monte, she added. While Rocha and Meyercamp are not believed to be married, they are involved in some kind of romantic relationship, Eimiller said. In the three robberies that followed at an East West Bank in Diamond Bar on Oct. 30, a Downey Savings in Claremont on Nov. 6, and a La Habra Wells Fargo on Nov. 8, both suspects allegedly worked together to rob the banks, said Eimiller. In all but the last robbery, only one teller at each bank was robbed, Eimiller said. In the La Habra crime, the suspects allegedly robbed a teller each before fleeing the store. In all the crimes, however, similar tactics were used. The suspects use a note demanding cash to rob tellers, said Eimiller. Although they always threaten that they’re armed, “no witnesses have actually seen a weapon,” she added. Nonetheless, Rocha and Meyercamp are presumed to be armed and dangerous, Eimiller said. A red two-door 1991 Jeep Renegade with a black top and license plate number 5RSR665 is believed to be their getaway vehicle, officials said. The FBI is not releasing the amount of money stolen in the robberies, however Eimiller said that in all five crimes so far, the suspects successfully got away with cash. The suspects were named after surveillance photos from the robberies were published in the media, said Eimiller. “Someone who knows the couple recognized them on television,” she said. Federal arrest warrants were issued for the two on Thursday, officials added. Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to contact local law enforcement or the 24-hour line of the FBI in Los Angeles at (310) 477-6565. crime@sgvn.com (626) 962-8811, Ext. 2718160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
