Virat Kohli will do everything he can to win matches for his team: David Warner to India Today

first_imgSunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner has praised Virat Kohli and said the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper is a brilliant competitor.Kohli, who missed the first three matches of RCB due to a shoulder injury, returned with a bang slamming his 27th fifty against Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. (Kohli won’t give me a Christmas card but I’ll buy him a lemonade: Lyon)Kohli was in sensational form last year, hammering a record 973 runs in the 2016 IPL, including four hundreds. In international cricket too, the India captain was in a scintillating form with close to 2600 runs. He also became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score double centuries in four consecutive series. He first achieved the feat against the West Indies then hit three more against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh. (RCB will be tough to beat with Kohli and De Villiers back: Clarke to India Today)However, his form dipped against Australia before he suffered a right shoulder injury on the first day of the third Test in Ranchi. He missed most part of that match and was ruled out of the fourth and final game, which India won to capture the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.”When you step onto the field for you country, you do everything you can to win. That’s the player Virat is. No matter what team he’s in, he goes out there and gives his 100 percent. He’ll do what he has to do to win,” Warner told India Today in an exclusive chat.advertisementWATCH FULL INTERVIEWKohli had taken on the aggressive Australians after the DRS row erupted in Bengaluru and had even taken exception to Lyon’s “head of the snake” remark after India had won the second Test to draw level in the four-match series which they eventually won. While Kohli and Aussie skipper Steve Smith were often embroiled in a war of words in their respective press conferences, there was plenty of sledging in the middle which spiced up an already tense contest. After India had wrapped up their seventh successive series win at the HPCA Stadium, Kohli said his friendships with the Australian cricketers were damaged permanently. However, he clarified later that the comment was meant only for a couple of the Aussies and he continued to share cordial relations with other players. (Kohli keeps my passion for cricket alive, says de Villiers)Warner termed the India-Australia series as “fantastic”.”We played the best cricket we could to give the fans the entertainment they deserved. It was a fantastic series. Every day of series had something new, that’s what we loved about this series. Expectation was India would win 4-0, we held our own and it came down to the last match,” Warner said.last_img read more
