Mourinho to Man United latest including salary, image rights and transfers

first_img 2 Jose Mourinho to Manchester United – it is now surely a case of when rather than if.The Portuguese boss is set to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford, less than a week after the club’s first FA Cup success since 2004. The 53-year-old and agent Jorge Mendes are in negotiations with the Red Devils and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, so what is the latest? Here, talkSPORT has the info…Terms agreedAccording to Sky Sports, Mourinho and Mendes have agreed terms with Woodward, successfully negotiating contract length and salary for the former Chelsea boss.Image rightsThe main issue so far has been agreeing terms on image rights and the two parties are set to meet in London on Wednesday to iron out the finer details. The contract cannot be signed before these issues are resolved and some of these include Mourinho’s deal with Jaguar – United’s shirt sponsor is car manufacturer Chevrolet – and the fact the two parties have different watch partners. Other existing commercial deals, however, such as Adidas, the sportswear giant with a 10-year kit deal with United, has Mourinho as a global ambassador.According to the Independent, Chelsea still own the rights to Mourinho’s name and that ownership will expire in 2025. That news has complicated the deal slightly, but is unlikely to lead to a breakdown in negotiations. TransfersDuring Tuesday’s discussions, Mourinho was keen to get assurances on player recruitment and the Red Devils’ transfer strategy, the London Evening Standard reports.Their previous attempts to sign players has reportedly been delayed while they get the go-ahead from their owners in America and the Portuguese wants a similar level of backing in transfers Sir Alex Ferguson was given. 2 Jose Mourinho outside his London home on Tuesday Rui FariaMourinho’s right-hand man, Faria has been his assistant at Porto, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid and he is set to follow him to Old Trafford. The 40-year-old was seen with Mourinho outside his London home in Monday, fuelling speculation they will team up once again. What next for Ryan Giggs? The Welshman is contracted at Old Trafford, but where will he fit in Mourinho’s plans if he wants Faria as his number two? That is a question that may also pop up towards the end of negotiations. READ MORE: Paul Scholes calls for Ryan Giggs to STAY at Manchester United under Jose Mourinholast_img read more

The Sad Tyranny of an Inbound-Only Approach to Winning Clients

first_img Essential Reading! Get my first book: The Only Sale Guide You’ll Ever Need “The USA Today bestseller by the star sales speaker and author of The Sales Blog that reveals how all salespeople can attain huge sales success through strategies backed by extensive research and experience.” Buy Now Each of us is a prisoner to our beliefs. Our beliefs shape our interpretation of reality, as well as what we believe is good and right and true. Our interpretation can constrain our thoughts, and those thoughts can restrict our actions, even when other people have different beliefs, ones that increase their choices instead of limiting them. Those constraints can be a form of self-imposed tyranny. For the last decade, since Web 2.0 and the advent of the social channels, there has been a significant push towards Inbound Marketing. The ability to create and share content to share with your prospective clients changed marketing, eliminating the need for a budget, an agency, or most importantly, permission to publish. For the better part of this period, salespeople, sales leaders, and sales organizations have been sold the idea that Inbound is more effective than Outbound, with the loudest voices suggesting that outbound and cold outreach is no longer necessary. They have also suggested that salespeople and sales organizations that employ an outbound approach will soon be out of business, that no one will work with people companies that use cold outreach.Inbound-only is not a strategy that any salesperson or sales organization should consider. The result is an opportunity-starved sales force, and on that is reliant on others. 100 Pieces of ContentRecently, a well-known social media marketer suggested that people create 100 pieces of content, a strategy this individual executes perfectly, with help from a large team and a massive investment of both time and money. The inbound-only proponents applauded the idea as an excellent idea. While it might be helpful for an individual working to develop a well-recognized brand, and a terrible idea for salespeople, and one that would be impossible to execute.Imagine a sales force of 200 salespeople. Each salesperson creates a single blog post each week. First, someone is going to have to approve the content, another person will have to edit the content, marketing will have to vet the content, and in many industries, legal will have to consent to the publication. There is no reason for a sales force to create 10,400 pieces of content a year, and there is no marketing professional who approves a strategy that would create confusion and chaos.Let’s set aside this extreme misinterpretation of a strategy for personal brand building as a sales strategy, and look at the real problem with an inbound-only approach.Passivity and WaitingNothing about selling lends itself to passivity or waiting. The idea that one must sit patiently, waiting for content to bring them leads and opportunities might be one of the most debilitating and destructive beliefs to take hold in some organizations. The idea that content will cause people to beat a path to your door is every salesperson’s dream; what could be easier than merely taking orders? What could be better? There is a reason we use the word “hunter” to describe salespeople. It signifies one that has to go out work to be able to feed themselves. We ‘don’t describe salespeople as fishermen or fisherwomen; the idea that someone would put a line in the water and wait for a bite, no matter how long it takes, and no matter how hungry they might be is a non-starter. For many reasons, there is no waiting in sales. Unlike most other areas of business, salespeople have a quota, a time-bound goal. With each day that slips by without the salesperson creating new opportunities, the deadline gets closer. Waiting is a dangerous strategy and a choice that isn’t available to salespeople or companies that intend to grow. A Detrimental Reliance on OthersSome people with sales titles believe that inbound should replace outbound, that it is marketing’s responsibility to bring them leads. When salespeople complain about leads not being qualified, what they are suggesting is that marketing should bring them “opportunities,” a prospect that is “ready-to-buy.” Marketing has its metrics and goals, and “new opportunities” ‘isn’t likely to be found among them. The idea that a salesperson should rely on marketing is to misunderstand the difference in the roles and goals. Not only does an inbound-only approach cause one to rely on marketing, but it also requires them to rely heavily on luck (even though Luck loves a hustler and ignores non-hustlers). Inbound requires your dream client to open their browser, navigate to a search engine, and type it some keyword that an algorithm directs to your website. You have to rely on your client searching, the algorithm to deliver them to you, and the content to cause them to reach out to you proactively.A Sad Form of TyrannyThe idea that your results are not within your control or influence is an unhealthy belief, and especially harmful for salespeople. Having to wait for someone else to proactively reach out to them before being able to engage with a person or company who would benefit from their help is to accept that you have no agency, that you are nothing more than a victim of circumstances beyond your control. There is no question that inbound marketing is important, that it should be done and done well, and that it is a powerful form of marketing that can and does help sales organizations. But inbound is ancillary to an effective outbound approach, one that includes cold outreach. Outbound is greater than Inbound. last_img read more

‘Will not let BJP bandh hit public life’

first_imgThe Trinamool Congress (TMC) government made it clear that it will ensure that daily life remains normal during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) State-wide bandh on Wednesday. The State BJP leadership on Saturday gave a call for a 12-hour Bangla bandh to protest the death of two youths in Uttar Dinajpur district’s Islampur allegedly during police firing. The two youths died during an agitation over recruitment of teachers at the local Daribhit High School. “Like earlier strikes, the people of Bengal will also reject the Bangla bandh by the BJP. If the BJP and its associates such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bajrang Dal try to create trouble, then the administration will take strong action,” State Education Minister and TMC general secretary general Partha Chatterjee said. He was speaking to journalists at the State Secretariat after a meeting of the Group of Ministers.‘Political frustration’Describing the BJP’s call for bandh as an “instance of political frustration”, he accused the party of trying to stall development in Bengal. “Out of political frustration, the BJP and its associates are trying to stall development and disrupt peace in Bengal. We will not let that happen,” he said. The Minister also said that the State government will issue notification to its employees to report for duty on Wednesday and also urged the private transport operators to function normally.“Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari has been asked to ensure that transport remains normal on Wednesday. If anyone tries to disrupt traffic, the police will take action as per law,” said Mr. Chatterjee.Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that there will be no bandh in Bengal. Accusing the BJP of trying to give a “communal angle” to the incident at Islampur, she urged the students “not to fall into their (BJP’s) trap.”BJP district president in Uttar Dinajpur Shankar Chakraborty, who was arrested on Sunday for threatening police, was produced before a district court and remanded in one day judicial custody.Mr. Chakraborty on Sunday afternoon had reportedly asked locals at Islampur to tie up the police personnel to trees and block their vehicles. He also said that if Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar was unable to restore normalcy in Uttar Dinajpur, he will not be allowed to stay in the district for even 20 days.Meanwhile, Left leaning youth organisation Young Bengal demanded a judicial probe into the Islampur incident. “Only a judicial probe can bring out the facts as neither the State nor the Central agencies has any credibility,” Prasenjit Bose, secretary of Young Bengal said.last_img read more

Progress on Bhima-Koregaon inquiry slow, say Dalit parties

first_imgPune: Ambedkarite parties have expressed concern over the allegedly tardy progress of the two-member commission set up by the State government to probe the Bhima-Koregaon clash that occurred on January 1. The outfits, including the RPI (A), said the statements of only a handful of people were recorded during the conclusion of the first phase of the hearings in Pune, which lasted four days from October 3 to October 6.They have demanded that the commission consisting of Justice Jai Narayan Patel, former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, and State chief secretary Sumit Mullick, submit their report by the end of December. On Wednesday, freelance journalist and researcher Chandrakant Patil deposed before the commission and submitted documents concerning the historical aspects leading to, and the vague nature of, the outcome of the 1818 battle between a regiment of the East India Company and the forces of the Peshwa.Mr. Patil said caste or religion had played no part in the events leading up to the engagement. In his affidavit, Mr. Patil said the battle was the result of a sequence of events arising from the assassination of a senior court member of the rulers of Baroda (Vadodara) in 1815 by a trusted lieutenant of the Peshwas. The British saw a chance to supplant the Peshwas.“There is no evidence to suggest that the Mahars had approached the British with an offer to help them against the Peshwas as they had been insulted by the latter or that they sought freedom from any sort of caste discrimination,” Mr. Patil said.Objecting to Mr. Patil’s claims, RPI (A) leader Siddharth Dhende said time is being wasted on the submission of a self-styled researcher whose deposition is irrelevant to the immediate question of the riots.“While I don’t wish to point fingers, the commission ideally ought to have recorded the statements of those directly affected by the clashes in the first phase of the hearings. Why is so much precious time being wasted on the testimony of someone like Mr. Patil? The materials that he has submitted to support his contention are already present in the public domain,” Dr. Dhende told The Hindu. The objective behind the judicial commission, Dr. Dhende said, is to probe who instigated the January 1 clash. “If only four or five persons have been examined by the commission so far, then the hearings could well drag on for another six months. By that time, the elections will be round the corner and the issue will be hanging fire,” Dr. Dhende, who was a member of an unofficial coordination committee set up by the police in the aftermath of the clashes, said.On Saturday, the sarpanch of Vadhu Budruk, Rekha Shivale, told the commission that the gram panchayat office has no record of the samadhi of Govind Ganapat Gaikwad, a Mahar who is claimed by the Dalit community to have performed the last rites of the slain Maratha King Sambhaji (Shivaji’s son).Ms. Shivale said while the panchayat has records of the samadhis of Chhatrapati Sambhaji, his aide, the poet Kavi Kalash, and the documents of historical shrines in the area, there is no such record of Gaikwad’s samadhi which might have come up in the last two years. Two days before the Bhima-Koregaon clash, a dispute broke out between upper caste Marathas and Dalits in Vadhu Budruk on December 29 last year over a rudimentary plaque erected near the tomb of Gaikwad.Dalits believe Gaikwad had defied Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to perform the last rites of Sambhaji after the latter was tortured and murdered by Aurangzeb in 1689, and had paid with his life for this deed. However, Marathas of Vadhu-Budruk claim the Mahars’ account is a distortion of history and that it was their ancestors — Shivale Deshmukh alias Bapuji Buva and his wife Padmavati — who performed Sambhaji’s final rites.Dr. Dhende said, “The Vadhu Budruk gram panchayat, which is dominated by Marathas, has tampered with documents Prahlad Gaikwad, who owns the land on which the samadhi is situated. The tomb of Govind Ganpat, along with those of other Mahar soldiers who had fought the Bhima-Koregaon battle, has been present in the village for nearly 150 years. The gram panchayat members are attempting to distort history through such [Ms. Shivale’s] testimonies.”Meanwhile, the Republican Yuva Morcha’s State president, Rahul Dambale, has moved an application before the commission demanding that it complete its work before December 25.last_img read more

Centre plans tourist parks for foreigners

first_imgThe tourism ministry is preparing a plan to set up 20 mega tourism parks across the country. It has already appointed a consultant to study the business model for setting up these parks, their locations and likely public-private partnerships. These self-contained parks will house hotels, food courts, adventure sports, entertainment avenues, convention centres and small markets.Under the proposed model, each tourism park will require 50 acres of land.An official said the idea behind these parks was to prolong the stay of a tourist, particularly from abroad, in a particular destination and provide them with all avenues for entertainment.Similar parks flourish in Singapore and the US, holidaying destinations popular with Indian tourists. The ministry will prepare a blueprint for setting up these parks and make funds available to the state governments, which will be the executing agencies. The government may have to provide land and related infrastructure, while investments will be made by private players. As international tourists are slowly returning to India after the global economic slowdown and Mumbai attacks, the government hopes to create better and hi-end facilities to hold their attention.last_img read more
