‘If Muslims of India succeed, the country will succeed’

first_img“If 200 million Muslims of India succeed, India will succeed. So rather than getting filled with bigotry and hatred, we should try to bring people together and provide them an equal economic opportunity,” said Frank Islam, noted Indo-American entrepreneur and philanthropist.Speaking to The Hindu ahead of participating in the 202nd Sir Syed Day event at AMU as the chief guest on Thursday, the celebrated alumnus of the university said: “One nation under God is acceptable but not one nation under one religion and one language. That is not part of the secular ethos of the country. When you attack one set of people because of who they are, you attack the composite culture of India.” He said India was a “global beacon” for democracy and “we have to keep that momentum alive”.The head of FI Investment Group said he was not an expert on Islam but Islamic faith always had people who were entrepreneurs. “I am here to provide a connection between AMU and entrepreneurship. The students should go out and get jobs, create jobs and make a cha-nge in people’s lives. That’s what Sir Syed’s vision was.”He appealed to the Muslim youth to keep their chin high, aim high and work hard. “If you are good at something, people recognise your talent and give you opportunities. Don’t be afraid of hostility or get disheartened by prejudices; it probably happens in every country… There are Muslims who can’t afford good education. It is where people like me have a role to play,” said Mr. Islam who has funded the construction of an auditorium in the mass communication department and an entrepreneurship centre in the department of business administration in AMU.Modern educationOn the need for imparting modern education, Mr Islam said madrasas have to rework their curriculum to train youngsters for the 21st-century workforce. “I have always said reciting Koran is a very good thing, and one should do that, but it is not going to get you a job.”Aked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the U.S., Mr. Islam said he was able to capture the pulse of the Indian-American population. He added that there were protesters wherever Mr. Modi went but their number was much less than those who turned up to cheer for him.last_img read more

Committee Weighs in on Air Force Criteria for Basing RPA Units

first_imgWhile praising the Air Force’s stationing process for new units and missions, the House Armed Services Committee lists the factors it believes the service should consider when making basing decisions for remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) units, according to language in the committee report accompanying the fiscal 2017 defense authorization bill. The Air Force should assess:the ability of a military installation and its associated or adjacent training areas to support the unit or mission;the capacity of a military installation to accommodate the unit or mission;the costs associated with the stationing, basing or laydown action; andencroachment and environmental considerations.“Further, the committee is supportive of basing criteria that leverage available Air Force infrastructure and existing quality of life and base support facilities, and pairs RPA units with related missions,” the committee states.More generally, the committee said it was supportive of the Air Force’s strategic basing process as it “provides a thorough, consistent and transparent process for basing decisions.”The committee approved the annual defense policy bill April 28. Phenomenal growth in home based agent sector is recent survey shows

first_img<< Previous PostNext Post >> TORONTO — A recent independent survey of Canadian home-based travel agents found that over 50% of them had made the decision to go home based in the last five years, explaining the astonishing growth in this sector all of a sudden. It is now thought that about 33% of all Canadian travel agents work from home.Over 60% of the home based agents surveyed were experienced agents working in a bricks and mortar agency before choosing to go home based. This dispels the false idea that home based agents are new to the industry and inexperienced. On the contrary, most home based agents have over 20 years’ experience in the industry. And almost half said they were earning more now than when they worked in a bricks and mortar agency. But the main reason these experienced agents are giving up their office positions seems to be about wanting to be their own boss. That and improving their work/life balance, as we have stated in an earlier article.Experienced agents also have usually gathered a good book of business as well, and have loyal clients who will follow them. The survey of almost 200 hosted travel agents across Canada included agents from all the leading host agencies. It was commissioned in December 2016 by The Travel Agent Next Door to gain further insight into the growing number of hosted agents and to determine how best to serve their needs in the future. The agents surveyed were currently affiliated with eight different host agencies from across Canada, with 12% not divulging who they were associated with.Flemming Friisdahl, Founder of The Travel Agent Next Door, says his company will continue to invest in third party research into the home based sector and he fully intends to share this information with the industry. “By understanding home based agents better, we can offer the best programs for their needs,” said Friisdahl.
