Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 will support face unlock, launch set for June 25

first_imgNews regarding Xiaomi’s next tablet is coming in fast and hard. The company is leaving almost nothing to the imagination as it continuously reveals details on the Mi Pad 4 in the days leading up to its launch. After confirming the launch date, Xiaomi has been posting a few teasers on its Weibo account as well as confirming a few specs and features about the Mi Pad 4. The tablet will be launched alongside the notched Redmi 6 Pro on June 25.Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi Pad 4 will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset, as was previously speculated, and this could be clocked up to 2.0Ghz. Going with a Snapdragon chipset is interesting considering the Mi Pad 3 was launched with a Mediatek processor. Xiaomi also mentions something called “smart game acceleration,” which suggests the Mi Pad 4 will come with certain optimisations aimed at providing a more immersive and seamless gaming experience. One may also speculate that the Mi Pad 4 could come to India eventually. Xiaomi this year has been expanding its product portfolio in the country with the launch of the Mi TV and some other products beyond its phones. So there’s a good chance the company could bring its tablet to the market as an affordable alternative to the iPad.The other confirmation by Xiaomi is that the Mi Pad 4 will support facial recognition to unlock the tablet. This will be a first for the Mi Pad series, which will be great to see considering past Mi Pads have not had any biometric options, not even a fingerprint scanner. The face unlock feature will be possible via the front camera, which won’t be as secure as say an iPhone X, but it is something.advertisementAs far as the unconfirmed specs go, the Mi Pad 4 is also tipped to come with a display bigger than the 7.9-inch display that was seen on the Mi Pad 3. This may be possible as rumours suggest the tablet could sport narrow bezels and an 18:9 display, which would be very interesting to see on a tablet. Additionally, the tablet is also tipped to bear a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor. Interestingly, rumours say the Mi Pad 4 could house a 6,000mAh battery, which would be smaller than that housed in the Mi Pad 3. It is possible that the company could make this compromise to keep the tablet’s form factor slim, but we will know for sure in just a few days.To recall, the Mi Pad 3 was launched sporting a metal unibody design and a 7.9-inch Retina display (2048×1536) on the front. The tablet was powered by a MediaTek chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is non-expandable. Optics are similar to what is being rumoured about the Mi Pad 4. The Mi Pad 3 also houses a 6600mAh and was launched with MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box.ALSO READ: This is the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro, launch set for June 25last_img
