Florida governor South Florida now in Hurricane Irma’s path

first_imgGroceriesWhen shopping for groceries residents are urged to focus on non-perishable items. Since electricity could be lost during the storms and for days following it is important to avoid foods that requires refrigeration. It’s recommended that residents purchase bottled water; canned and dry goods including corn beef, tuna, sausages, soups, bread, biscuits, crackers, cookies, jellies, peanut butter, juices, powdered drink mix, chips, sauces. South Florida residents urged to prepareOfficials in South Florida are urging all residents to make preparation for the arrival of Irma notwithstanding its exact landfall target is still unknown. Residents are also urged not to wait until the storm is too close to be prepared. It has not been unusual for stores and supermarkets to run out of supplies as a storm approaches. MedicationResidents on medication should ensure they fill their prescriptions before the storm hits. They should have medication to last for up to two weeks. PetrolMotorists should ensure they fill the tanks of their vehicles with petrol prior to the storm. It will be difficult for gas stations to pump petrol if they lose electricity. Other suppliesOther recommended supplies included oil fueled lanterns, kerosene oil, batteries to fit flashlights, and battery powered radios and TVs, paper plates and cups, paper towels, garbage bags; plywood and tarpaulins in case one’s roof is damaged during the storm.center_img Storm not turning as expectedWhile forecasters expected the storm to turn more to the north after passing through the Eastern Caribbean, Monday evening’s forecast did not reflect that turns, showing the storm taking a more western path towards Florida. With the proposed trajectory of the storm pointing towards South Florida on Monday, people took advantage of the holiday to visit supermarkets like Publix and Winn-Dixie to stock up on bottled water, and other supplies. At Home Depot stores in South-West Miami, which was severely impacted by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, shoppers were purchasing plywood which is usually used to protect windows during a hurricane. Both a USA and an European hurricane forecast model are converging to indicate Hurricane Irma could impact South Florida as early as Friday this week. The trajectory of the storm prompted Florida Governor Rick Scott to declare a state of emergency for the entire state. On Monday evening the storm was forecast to pass through northwestern Caribbean, impacting Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and Cuba. The forecasted Hurricane cone expanded some 145 miles and forecast has the storm impacting areas of South Florida by Friday. However, the exact area where the storm could impact is still too early to confirm. CashResidents should also draw sufficient cash to last for a number of days, as banks could be closed for an indefinite period, and without electricity, ATMs will be useless.last_img read more

Trinidad’s Opposition Leader Denies Allegations of Plots to Assassinate Gov’t Ministers

first_imgkeith rowley kamla persad-bissessar PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The main opposition United National Congress (UNC) has denied any involvement in any plot to assassinate Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley or members of his administration, describing the allegations as “a last-ditch, desperate attempt to fool the electorate” ahead of the next general election in 2020.Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar, in a statement, said that the allegations were akin to those made in the so-called e-mail gate scandal, when in 2013, Rowley, then Opposition Leader, told legislators that he had received in December the previous year, a total of 31 emails, from a “whistle blower” indicating how operatives within the government had sought to undermine those institutions including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and the media.. He said he had passed them on to the Office of the President. The police earlier this year ended their probe into the “emailgate” without laying charges against anyone. In her statement, Persad Bissessar said that Prime Minister Rowley is aware that he cannot win the next general election “fair and square” and “from the producers of Emailgate comes a last-ditch, desperate attempt to fool the electorate in 2020 with a sequel”Rowley, speaking at a public meeting of his ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) last Friday, linked opposition operatives to a plot to assassinate Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi and warned the population of Trinidad and Tobago that they should not consider the threats to be a joke.“Understand what we are dealing with in this country. I tell you this not because I am being irresponsible, because I want you to know (and) you can’t say you don’t know. I want you to know because I am the Chairman of the National Security Council,” Rowley added. He also disclosed that in 2015, “on two occasions they hired a killer to kill me. The first killer refused and determined that somebody has to know this and went and told a government official. The government official came and told us. We told the police.”During the public meeting, National Security Minister, Stuart Young, spoke of a “disturbing” pattern being observed involving known members of the UNC) and the members of the criminal underworld.Young, indicating that he was coming out of the Parliament where he could have been afforded parliamentary immunity to make the statement, said that he had been informed that “very high ranking members of the opposition, the UNC opposition, at the highest, highest levels…are engaging in active conversations and communication…with the criminal elements in our society.“I stand here tonight without fear of contradiction to tell you that at the highest level of the opposition they are engaging the criminal elements,” Young, who is also an attorney said, pointing a finger also at sitting opposition members of both houses of Parliament.NEWSDAY newspaper Monday quoted Police Commissioner Gary Griffith as confirming “Al-Rawi and Rowley’s lives were at risk and the necessary precautions were taken to protect them”.He told the newspaper that he received “a few months ago”, the report of the threat against Al-Rawi.But in her statement, Persad Bissessar said that Rowley and the ruling party are “in panic mode they will throw the entire kitchen sink of lies because they believe that is the only way that they can win.“They will not speak about job creation instead they will focus on lies about emails and murder. They will not speak about the thousands that have been killed under their watch instead they will tell you that they needed special branch protection. Who protected the thousands who died under Stuart and Rowley?”The Opposition Leader said that she has no “intention of falling for these distractions and distortions whowants to go and watch Mission Impossible Rowley style good luck with that.“I wish to wholly condemn the latest round of wild scandalous allegations of an assassination plot made by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley on his political platform on Friday, October 18, 2019,” Persad Bissessar said, adding ”these allegations are baseless and are being made for the purpose of fear-mongering and scoring cheap political points”.She said the latest talk of assassination plots “bears the hallmark of Dr Rowley’s wild, irresponsible, ranting and dangerous style of politicking, which has long been his trademark.“It is a return to his emailgate style of politics, make wild accusations with no evidence and hope that something sticks. In the past, when he served as a mere mouthpiece for the PNM, he was easily dismissed as attention-seeking by the population”She said Rowley was moving to revive his “dying political career,” adding “the fact remains that this is the *first* time Dr Rowley has mentioned these alleged plots, even though he has been through several national elections since they were allegedly made in 2015.“The question on the lips of people, now, therefore, is simply—*why now,” she added.last_img read more

Germany moves forward by presenting unloved framework to EU courts

first_imgShare MoneyMatrix boosts wire transfer options by integrating Klarna’s Sofort August 24, 2020 Mateusz Juroszek – Non-stop STS will expand amid industry disruptions August 12, 2020 Seeking to relaunch its gambling marketplace on 1 July 2021, Germany has submitted the revised framework of its Fourth Edition of the ‘State Treaty on Gambling’ to the European Union.Despite numerous revisions, the framework has yet to be ratified by the nation’s 16 federal Länder (states). The make-up of the treaty continues to be debated by regional MPs at the Bundestag federal council, in which 13 states must ratify the treaty by 31 March 2021 for Germany’s new gambling framework to be passed into law.Should the mandate be ratified, Germany will establish its federal legislative framework for operating gambling services until 31 December 2028, when Länder will be allowed to revise or opt-out of the treaty.Despite a clear pathway being formed towards market regulation, German gambling’s legislative progress has underwhelmed all industry stakeholders. At present, licensed incumbents will face a €1,000 deposit limit combined with stringent restrictions applied across all online gambling verticals.Sports betting incumbents will face a market with undefined in-play wagering restrictions, which has led trade bodies and stakeholders to question whether the State Treaty’s framework will be competitive against the black-market.Despite a last-minute reprieve allowing online casino games, licensees will see slot games limited to a maximum €1 stake. Furthermore, tables games will be maintained under the domain of state-sanctioned monopolies.Further to its punitive restrictions, the State Treaty has drafted a convoluted licensing structure, in which operator fees will be determined through projections of turnover combined with individual levies.Should the State Treaty secure its approval, the chancery of the Länder of Saxony-Anhalt will begin its remit as the regulatory authority for federal gambling, opening a year-long licensing window for foreign and domestic incumbents.Making its way to EU courts, State Treaty backers will hope that the amended framework secures a positive response from European commissioners reviewing the legislation.Reviewing Bundesrat proposals last August, the European Commission rejected the treaty’s technical provisions attached to sports betting legislation as failing to meet EU market requirements.Sanctioning a ‘blue letter’ warning, the EC cautioned German lawmakers on enforcing a termination of online casino services, combined with a player spending cap set at €1,000 and further limitations on in-play markets.Leading the EU’s business regulatory supervision, the EC urged the Bundesrat to discontinue proceeding with developing its legislation – a call that would be rejected by the Länder of Nordrhein-Westfalen who underlined that no changes should be implemented despite EC objections.10 months on from the EC’s notice, industry stakeholders now question whether Bundesrat really ever believed it could regulate a gambling marketplace under its State Treaty terms. Big changes announced for the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season 2018 – 2019

first_imgValve has announced its changes to the Dota 2 Pro Circuit for season 2018 – 2019 starting this September 2018.The only cheese you needTo help players, teams, and organizers prepare for the upcoming season, a few big changes are on the way, notably on ownership or shares of teams and DCP points, player movement penalties, team invites, qualifications and also season schedule.Teams and RostersTo be eligible for the season teams must register their roster by September 15th, 2018 at 10:00 AM PDT.No hard roster locks up until when  The International Invites and Qualifiers start. From that point on teams will no longer be allowed to change their roster until the conclusion of the TI Main event with the rare exception to substitutes, subject to approval from Valve of course.Changing rosters during the season will no longer disqualify a team from DPC consideration either.Teams hold The International qualifying points instead of individual players.Teams are allowed to remove players (or players can decide to leave) at the cost of 20% of the teams current total DCP points per player removed.Adding a new player will not earn any additional points. If a team plays in a Pro Circuit event without their official five-man roster, the points earned for that event will be reduced by 40%.When playing in a Minor or Major qualifier, teams must always use at least 4 of their 5 registered players.Team Ownership & InvitesFollowing on shortly after the CS:GO ownership rules: In cases where one organization or person has ownership in multiple teams, only one of those teams will be eligible to compete in The International, regardless of DPC qualifying points. However, Valve is giving close to a year to all players, owners and shareholders to sort their business out.All teams can participate in the Pro Circuit Majors and Minors leading up to next year’s TI, but all ownership conflicts will need to be resolved prior to TI Regional Qualifiers. This includes cases in which players have financial ties to other teams.Minors and Major:Next season’s Minor and Major events will be held in pairs, with the qualifiers for each set to run in exclusively scheduled windows. There will be no direct invites to either Minors or Majors but in some cases, reserved slots will apply. The Major qualifier will run first, and teams who do not qualify for the Major will be eligible to compete in the Minor qualifiers a few days later. The winner of the Minor Main Event will have a reserved slot in the respective Major happening shortly afterwards. All Minors must feature at least eight teams, with a minimum of one qualifier per region.Majors must have at least sixteen teams, with at least two qualifiers per region. All teams that play in a Minor or Major will earn DPC points.Teams participating in the Minors will be required to work on the Visa application in advance of the tournament, in order to be able to make the Major if they win.Following these changes, Valve is currently accepting applications for all of the Minor and Major tournaments apart from the first Major in November.Reaction from the Dota 2 scene has been very positive so far and understandably so.Very happy to see Valve unequivocally and publicly tackle all potential conflict of interest issues for next year’s DPC.This is a big step in ensuring competitive integrity for future years— David Gorman (@LDeeep) June 4, 2018 One thing the blog post does not address is how Dota teams belonging to a region is defined. Will be a big topic with no more direct invites. In CSGO it is pretty clear by nationality.— Ulrich Schulze (@theflyingdj) June 4, 2018 Everything said in this blog post is fucking incredible news.– paired minors/majors– no ownership conflicts (xdruru)– no more hard locks – no more ‘join the team bring all the points xd!’Interesting that this suggests ESL Hamburg 2018 will not be a part of the DPC calendar— Ben Steenhuisen (@followNoxville) June 4, 2018With some valuable remarks here and there while the changes dota 2 has announced to are, in some ways, heartening, i’m still a skeptic. until valve is willing to take more responsibility for the dota 2 scene (instead of just fiddling with its rule book), the company is kicking the can down the road.— will partin is such sweet sorrow (@william_partin) June 4, 2018Just remember Dota fans, this is all because of NoxvilleNot that I’m gonna take the credit for it (jk ofc I will), but in my interview with @olliering for @redbullesports ( in which I discussed improvements for the next DPC season, I suggested paired Minors/Majors as part of a cycle effort.— Ben Steenhuisen (@followNoxville) June 4, 2018Full release including dates for upcoming Major and Minor events can be found here.Esports Insider says: With a very specific schedule set out for next season it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Tier 1 teams at every event, allowing for additional third-party events in between giving room to up-and-comers to make their mark. However, this could also just leave the newcomers without a chance if the tournament organisers don’t take the bait and only focus on Minors and Majors.Sign up to our newsletter! Great to see Valve extending the conflict of interest rules regarding ownership to Dota 2 as well. I wonder how that will impact on the scene ahead of next year’s International.— Richard Lewis (@RLewisReports) June 4, 2018last_img read more
