Weird Sht Discovered With Google Maps

first_img Easily Assign Tasks With Google AssistantLGBTQ+ Video Creators Sue YouTube, Google Stay on target Information – that’s what Google’s all about. They aim to take the entire world and suck it into their computers, then serve it up as search results to us with ads attached. And we love them for it. It’s hard to imagine a world without Google Maps, especially. Their roving cars and cameras in the sky have snapped shots of pretty much every location on Earth, allowing us to commute faster and cyberstalk more efficiently. While most Google satellite shots are pretty dull, those cameras do occasionally capture some unexpected vistas. Come with us as we scan the world with our hungry eyes to discover ancient temples, modern miracles, and other totally weird stuff that Google Maps discovered. The Badlands GuardianLocation: 50° 0’38.20″ N, 110° 6’48.32″ WHuman beings are notorious egomaniacs, seeing our faces in just about everything from electrical outlets to the stars above. But we have to admit that the Badlands Guardian, a natural geomorphological formation located in southeast Alberta, is a little intense. The outcropping created by natural erosion looks an awful lot like a human head wearing an Aboriginal Canadian headdress. It was discovered in 2006 by a researcher examining random locations on Google Earth.Airplane BoneyardLocation: 32 08’59.96″ N, 110 50’09.03″ WWhere do airplanes go when they die? Why, to a massive graveyard outside of Tucson, Arizona, discovered on Google Maps and surprisingly open to the public. The Airplane Boneyard at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is the single largest aircraft dump site in the world. The region was picked for its low humidity, high altitude and hard alkaline soil, keeping the over 4,400 airplanes there in good shape to be stripped for parts or, in extreme cases, returned to action.White Desert LinesLocation: 40 45’21.07″ N, 93 74’21.18″ WWhen this strange tangle of white lines was discovered on Google Maps in the middle of China’s Gobi Desert, it immediately sparked a frenzy of discussion as to what the obviously man-made arrangement was used for. It’s too chaotic to be a landing strip, but the even lines and steady angles were too orderly to be the result of random chance. The general consensus a few years post-finding seems to be that it’s a calibration pattern for spy satellites – they compare it to an onboard image to ensure that their cameras are lined up and receiving properly. The Lake Of BloodLocation: 33 23’46.08″ N 44 29’17.03″EWhat was referred to as “Lago Vermelho” showed up on a Google Maps survey in 2007 as a lake of bloody crimson red. The explanation for a body of water that striking color in the midst of war-torn Iraq has still not been given, but some speculated that slaughterhouses had been disposing of their runoff blood into it. That’s a little unlikely from a scientific perspective, with the more reasonable theory being that chemical spillage was responsible. The red color didn’t last forever, though, and recent satellite shots show Lago Vermelho back to its normal blue-green hue.The Nevada CircleLocation: 37 40’15.73″ N, -116 86’78.08″ WYou’ve probably noticed by now that a lot of these mysterious markings and strange creations are found in the vast empty deserts of the world. That’s probably because it’s a lot easier to get away with this kind of project when there’s nobody around to ask what you’re doing. This bizarre six-pointed star enclosed in a circle can be found in the southern Nevada wastelands below Stonewall Mountain, and unlike some of the other entries on this list, we don’t have any explanation for it. Cult sacrifice spot? Possibly!Indochinese Border Scale ModelLocation: 38 26’56.52″ N, 10 5’95.17″ WIt’s pretty easy to use Google Maps to keep tabs on the borders of the Earth’s countries, but if you were to zip your camera over Yong Ning Xian, Yinchuan, Ningxia, China you might get confused. For some as yet undisclosed reason, the Chinese government has constructed a 1/20 scale model of a disputed border zone between that nation and India. Measuring 1.8 miles in length, there’s no real consensus on why this was constructed. One Australian publication floated the theory that it is used to train tank drivers, but are the tanks 1/20 of normal size as well? It’s just too weird for me.Trementina BaseLocation: 355 27’46.48″ N, -1045 57’07.96″ WThe Church of Scientology works hard to keep their inner workings shrouded in mystery, but they probably didn’t predict Google Maps would record the entire surface of the Earth and capture the bizarre markings they etched into the ground outside of their secret base in New Mexico. Trementina Base is allegedly the spot where L. Ron Hubbard’s writings and archives are preserved for eternity inside titanium capsules. The Scientology symbols – which look a lot like a nice pair of boobs, just saying – were discovered in 2005, and the Church immediately tried to suppress their release.South Sudan HoleLocation: 9 16’89.62″ N, 30 38’29.05″ WIf you’ve been following Flat Earth truthers, you know they argue that the earth isn’t a ball floating in space but rather a contact lens-shaped disc surrounded by an atmospheric bubble and a wall of ice. How else to explain anomalies like this bizarre circular portal in the jungles of South Sudan? It’s hard to imagine that a natural body of water could be so perfectly round and covered by what appears to be a floating layer of foliage, but there are no roads or other evidence of human intervention. What could it be? Maybe it’s the drain hole for the flat Earth?New Baltimore Hell TownLocation: 42 438’70.22″ N, -73 78’84.39″ WLet’s head down from the satellite and check in with Google’s busy little Street View cars, driving along to document every navigable road in the country. Sometimes those cameras run into a little trouble, and when one was working in upstate New York it seemingly opened a portal to a hell dimension. Residents of New Baltimore are as of last reports not under siege by malevolent demonic entities, and Google sent another car out to get better pictures. While it lasted, though, it was one of the weirdest things we’ve ever seen on Google Maps.A Giant Pink BunnyLocation: 44 24’46.22,” N, 7 76’88.63″ WA who to the what now? Atop a hill in the Piedmont region of Italy rests “Hase,” a 200 foot long stuffed rabbit deposited there by art collective Gelatin as a massive art project. The group spent five years knitting the damn thing and expect it to totally decompose by 2025, so the Google Maps views of the thing are just going to get creepier and creepier every year as nature reclaims it.Satan’s FaceLocation: 34 79’85.48″ N, -84 93’62.25″ WWe started this off with a hidden face and we’ll end it with one as well. In 2010, a man named Luther Blissett claimed to discover the face of Satan lurking in a Google Maps image of a freeway just outside of Dalton, Georgia. The malevolent visage disappeared when Google made their next satellite pass, but true believers never forget. It’s not the first time the face of the Devil has been spotted in natural phenomena – he’s turned up in tornado photographs and other natural disasters. I wouldn’t rank the traffic in Georgia on that level, but it’s pretty bad.last_img read more
