The No. 1-ranked Long Beach State men’s volleyball team needed a mere hour and 15 minutes to dispatch winless Cal Baptist, 30-20, 30-14, 30-25 in a nonconference match Saturday night. Senior All-American Robert Tarr logged 14 kills as 49ers (5-0) compiled an impressive .402 kill percentage. Francisco Valdez and Teddy Liles both added eight kills and Duncan Budinger had seven. “Our blocking defense was great tonight,” said LBSU coach Alan Knipe. “If we didn’t block it, we touched it. And if we didn’t touch it, we transitioned it. We are getting more disciplined. I thought Tyler’s serving was as good as it’s ever been tonight.” All-American setter Tyler Hildebrand finished with three kills, 31 assists and two aces. In the first game, LBSU went on a five-point run to take a 7-2 lead and the lead swelled from there. The 49ers opened up a 4-0 lead in the Game 2 and finished with four aces.
