Fox Still Wants to Believe The XFiles Gets an 11th Season

first_imgStay on target As long as there are mysteries left in the universe, we’ll watch Agents Mulder and Scully attempt to piece them together. Fox has ordered an 11th season of the the recently revived ’90s hit, The X-Files, Deadline reports. After last year’s six-episode event, another season was almost inevitable. Not only because it left off in a super weird, not entirely satisfying place, but because everyone involved wanted to make more. It took a ton of corporate deal-making, but it’s finally happening. The 11th season of The X-Files will premiere either late this year or early next.Fox president David Madden told Deadline “Chris [Carter’s] creativity along with the brilliant work of David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson], continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”The X-Files season 10 (Photo via FOX)Expectations are high after Mulder and Scully came back for last year’s Season 10 miniseries. Even though it had been years since we last saw the characters, it felt like they had never left. The sexual tension that enthralled ’90s audiences was still there, and the two actors somehow had more on-screen chemistry than ever before. The show was still that perfect combination of scary and silly that kept people coming back for nine seasons and a movie, to begin with. It even had a good old-fashioned monster-of-the-week episode, though it did seem odd for something like that to appear in a short miniseries. Thankfully, the 11th season will have a little bit more breathing room. It will consist of 10 episodes, rather than six. It’s only fitting that The X-Files keeps coming back. It’s never been particularly good at finales. When the show first ended back in 2002, it left a few plot threads open, and audiences still had unanswered questions. Its second movie, released in 2008, spent years in development hell and was ultimately a disappointment. As great as last year’s miniseries was, its ending was confusing and not terribly satisfying. Honestly, maybe that’s all for the best. If The X-Files keeps delivering strange, confusing cliffhanger finales, the series never has to end. 11 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows to Binge WatchThe X-Files heads to the Funko Universe in this One Shot Exclusive last_img read more
