FA Cup holders Arsenal beat Burnley 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium to book their place in the fifth round.Arsenal, who won the competition in 2014 and 2015, handed Mohamed Elneny his debut and welcomed Alexis Sanchez and Francis Coquelin back into the starting lineup after spells on the sidelines through injury. The Gunners took the lead on 19 minutes when Sanchez set up Calum Chambers to bend a shot into the top corner, but the Championship side hit back on the half-hour mark when Sam Vokes headed past David Ospina.Sanchez restored their advantage early in the second half, crashing home Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross, to secure progress.Kelechi Iheanacho scored a hat trick as Manchester City thrashed Premier League relegation battlers Aston Villa 4-0 at Villa Park.Iheanacho stabbed home the opener on four minutes after Villa keeper Brad Guzan had blocked Fernando’s header. The Nigerian doubled their advantage on 24 minutes, sending Guzan the wrong way from the penalty spot after Raheem Sterling went down in the area.He added his third on 73 minutes following a poor backpass from Idrissa Gueye, and Sterling made it 4-0 moments later.Liverpool’s packed fixture slate will get even busier after a goalless draw with West Ham.The result means the Reds’ February schedule includes a replay in at Upton Park to go with three Premier League fixtures, a two-legged Europa League tie against Augsburg and the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City. Liverpool came the closest to breaking the deadlock in the 75th minute, as West Ham keeper Darren Randolph made three saves in quick succession.Randolph did well to keep out Christian Benteke, then Joe Allen and then Benteke again from close range.Tottenham Hotspur eased into the fifth round with a 4-1 victory at Colchester United.Colchester, who saw defender Alex Wynter stretchered off early on following a clash of heads and fellow centre-back Tom Eastman hurt in the same incident, fell behind on 27 minutes when Nacer Chadli fired home. Spurs extended their lead through a deflected Eric Dier shot on 64 minutes before Marvin Sordell struck a post for the hosts. Chadli then headed home for his second of the game before Ben Davies scored an own goal shortly afterwards, making it 3-1.Tom Carroll had the last word for the visitors, firing in off the underside of the bar from Chadli’s cross.Crystal Palace beat Stoke City 1-0 at Selhurst Park.Wilfried Zaha put Palace ahead on 18 minutes, beating Stephen Ireland and Marc Wilson before sending the ball between keeper Jakob Haugaard’s legs. That proved enough to give the out-of-form Eagles a morale-boosting victory over the 2011 finalists.West Bromwich Albion were held to a 2-2 draw by League One side Peterborough United after a flurry of late goals.Saido Berahino gave West Brom the lead on 14 minutes, firing past Ben Alnwick from 25 yards after good work from Rickie Lambert.Posh hit back through Shaq Coulthirst, a new signing from Tottenham, after a defensive mix-up on 79 minutes, but Berahino appeared to have settled it with a well-placed finish shortly afterwards. On 86 minutes, though, Jon Taylor made it 2-2 to take the match to a replay. Watford needed a late goal from Odion Ighalo to defeat Championship side Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground.–Follow Joy Sports on Twitter: @JoyFMSports. Our hashtag is #JoySports
In an awe inspiring story of giving back to society, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, a former student of the Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) and currently the Director of Sports of the Sports Directorate, University of Ghana Legon has fulfilled a long desire of making a significant contribution to his alma mater with the official commissioning of a sports court named after him (Dr. Bitugu Multipurpose Sports Court) at Keta, Volta region on Friday, 22nd March, 2019.A 1983 graduate of KETASCO, Dr. Bitugu is the current Chairman of The International Scientific Network for Sport for Development and Peace. He has served and continues to serve in various international roles as an academic (University of Innsbruck, Applied University of Kufstein, University of Krems an der Donau, all in Austria). He also worked and continues to work as an expert and consultant for the UN, Africa Union, the Commonwealth, UEFA, FIFA, European Union, the Austrian Government, the Government of Ghana and selected African and European NGOs and institutions.A role model for sports and education, especially for the youth, Dr. Bella has had a passion to come back to his roots and give back to the society that helped shape his early beginnings. This was a crowning moment of years of hard work and perseverance. The multipurpose court is first of its kind in Ghana for a second cycle institution in terms of size, purpose and funding worth an estimated GH 167,000. Dr. Bitugu Multipurpose Sports Court was constructed with funds from the Austrian Ministry of Sports, supported by the 1976 KETASCO Year Group, businessman and philanthropist Dr. Dan Mckorley (Macdan), Brigadier-General Dr. Chris Agbeka, Dr. Saviour Badohu and other individuals from the 76 and 83 Old Student Unions, among others. Welcoming dignitaries, chiefs, students and staff of the school, the headmaster of Keta Secondary School Mr. Charles Agbakey expressed his gratitude to all who had contributed to the success of the project. “I want to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Bella and all other contributors who made sure that this project did not stall,” he said. The project coordinator Rev. Herbert Nuworkpor, could not hide his elation at the completion of the project having spent much time and energy on it. He declared, at long last the battle has ended!!!!”At long last the battle is over and Ketasco has overcome an infrastructural deficit. The project was made much bigger than originally projected which meant more funds were required. At the official commissioning ceremony, it was revealed to the admiration of all that the court had been named after Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu.Dr. Bitugu played a pioneering role in the construction of the court, directly and indirectly, sourcing for the necessary funding for the project. It was announced that the Ministry of Sports Austria had contributed about 80 per cent of the total cost of the project while some groups and individuals had also made some contributions whose names are acknowledged on the official plaque in front of the court.Dr. Bella rolled back the years and told the gathering about his early beginnings at Keta.“I was once here at Ketasco. In house 1, Quao House…Sports is supposed to bring people together and create a holistic and well-fashioned person for tolerance, understanding, time management, focus and perseverance,…qualities hardly taught in the classroom” he said to wild applause from the student body. He continued, “Ketasco has made me who I am today. I started by contributing in various forms to the school including books, internet, sports kits etc. I think we should give back to where we came from. I want to say thank you to my juniors and seniors, teachers and everyone.”“I am here to tell you that the court is ready to be used. I am very happy and this journey was a very long journey. This was a struggle. I see this as another favour from our God. Please note also that schools around as well as the community also have the right to use the court. The school management should design a procedure for outsiders to have easy access to the court.”Spurred on by their latest infrastructural addition, some students of KETASCO took to the court to showcase their skills in a special handball contest.Dr. Bitugu urged them to “Become the champions of basketball, volleyball, handball, netball, tennis and allow others from outside to use the court so Keta becomes a base to showcase Development through Sports… And he had a special message to the Austrian Ministry of Sports with whose support the project materialized.“I want to thank the Austrian Ministry of Sports, the Austrian Government and VIDC, Vienna and all the people involved in getting us here,” he said. The Dr. Bitugu Multipurpose Sports Court is well equipped to host the major indoor events such as basketball, handball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis among others. The entire South Zone Schools and Colleges Sports Association and Volta Region stand to benefit from the use of the facility. It appears the commissioning of the facility has come at the right time to solve a major infrastructural deficit and hundreds if not thousands of school children would benefit from the use of the Dr. Bitugu Multipurpose Sports Court well into the near future. —
The Cologne Prosecution has indicted Bosnian boxer Adnan Catic for tax evasion, his lawyer Nils Kröber has confirmed, Klix.ba news portal reports.Catic was arrested on April 5ththis year in Cologne during a visit to the FIBO fitness fair and was arrested by police on charges of tax evasion. The court denied him a request for release on bail of one million euros, and was recently charged with evading taxes of seven million euros. If the allegations turn out to be true, Catic will face up to several years in prison, given that had suspended sentence of 22 months in 2012 for tax evasion.Catic, who fights under the alias Felix Sturm, was a world champion in his career with a score of 40 wins, five losses and three draws. On February 20th, 2016, Catic had the last fight in Oberhausen against Fjodor Cudinov after which he was positive on the forbidden substance. He broke the silence two months later with a post which he shared via Instagram where he complained about being treated unfairly by the doping investigators. Sturm wrote that he was only informed two months after the first doping sample about the results and that he wasn’t told why it took longer than usual (two weeks). After engaging a lawyer who requested all the required documents from the investigators he noticed that the last page was missing, “…where is written, when my sample arrived at the laboratory, who received it and who analysed the sample.”, it was written in that social media post. He allegedly didn’t get an answer after submitting further inquiries and was denied the right to let the b-sample be analysed by another laboratory. Sturm claimed that the WBA refrained from suspending him because of these irregularities. But, after almost three years Catic has proved his innocence and he is preparing for a great return.Catic, who will be 40 years old on January 31st, is the fifth world champion. In his career, he had 49 matches in which he scored 40 wins with six defeats, and ended three without a winner.Probably, his 50th fight will be against Arthur Abraham (38), also a multiple champion in the middle and supreme category.Catic is a five-time world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBO middleweight title from 2003 to 2004, the WBA middleweight title twice between 2006 and 2012, the IBF middleweight title from 2013 to 2014, and the WBA (Super) super-middleweight title in 2016.
